The 3 Tools You Need as a Mompreneur to Build Your Online Business on a Budget (Without Being Tech Savvy)

If you’ve ever sat at your kitchen table staring at your laptop wondering how on earth building a simple website turned into a whole personality crisis… girl, same. When I first stepped into the online world, I just wanted to feel official. I wanted a beautiful little digital home where my coaching offers lived, a blog I might actually use, and a place that didn’t rely on the chaos of social media.

What I didn’t expect was that the path to get there would feel like wrestling a greased pig. And because I would never wish that on another mompreneur who’s just trying to build her online dream with limited time, limited money, and zero extra brain bandwidth, I want to share the three tools that finally made my online business simple, affordable, and actually doable... even with less than basic tech skills.

But let’s start at the beginning.

I Just Wanted a Damn Website!

Like so many beginners, I started with Wix. I’d heard it was “easy” and “drag-and-drop,” which sounded perfect for someone who did not have the time, energy, or desire to learn coding on top of parenting and running a household. Except… it wasn’t easy. Not even a little.

Wix was expensive, confusing, and incredibly inflexible. Every time I tried to update something, I ended up three clicks deep into a menu that made absolutely no sense, holding my breath and praying I didn’t accidentally delete my entire homepage. Their customer service didn’t offer much help, and the final straw came when they charged me for three full years of service despite the fact that I barely got one functional year out of it.

But honestly, even that wasn’t the worst part of my journey — it was just one chapter. The real gut punch came from an entirely different direction.

The Day My Communities Vanished

Out of nowhere, Facebook shut down my personal account for something completely unrelated to my business. And because my communities were tied to that account, I lost everything — access, members, history, connection… all gone in an instant.

After the shock wore off, I knew I needed a safe home for my people. Somewhere that wasn’t controlled by an algorithm or one random decision from a platform I had zero control over. So I decided to move my communities onto my Wix website, hoping that housing them on my own turf would protect them and help me rebuild what I’d lost.

Except… no one came.

It felt like shouting into the void — waving my hands in the dark, hoping someone might somehow stumble across my new space. After almost two years, both communities sat completely quiet. No growth, no engagement, just digital cobwebs. And Wix did nothing to help support the visibility or growth of these communities.

It was discouraging. It was exhausting. And I hit that moment every mompreneur knows too well: How am I supposed to do all of this on my own?

That's when I knew it was time to make a shift.

When the Shift You Need Finds You and Pushes You in the Right Direction

After I hit that “how the hell am I supposed to do this on my own?” moment, I knew something had to change. I just didn’t know what it was yet. But life has a funny way of handing you the exact next step you need the moment you’re ready to see it. For me, that next step came through digital marketing. I joined a program to help support my coaching income, and as part of the setup, they created a System.io account for me.

I logged in fully expecting another maze of frustration… but instead found something shockingly simple and clean. Within a single weekend, I had my very first landing page and funnel built — start to finish. I sat there staring at my screen, completely flabbergasted. I couldn’t believe that I had just put together something functional, professional, and connected to automation… all without crying or begging for help! This was something I never had before!

It wasn’t a full website yet — more like the smallest, simplest doorway into my business — but it was the first time I realized how easy and intuitive the creative process could be when the right tools are in front of you. System.io gave me structure. It gave me clarity. And because they offer a truly generous free plan, I could start building my business without feeling like I was going into debt just to make a homepage appear.

Now, full transparency, I did use a template from the program I was in, which definitely helped speed things up. But even with the basic tools, System made everything feel doable and within reach. For the first time in a long time, I felt like maybe — maybe — I wasn’t as far behind as I thought.

System gave me the structure I needed…
but I still wanted something beautiful. Something feminine. Something that felt like me and would speak to the moms I love supporting.

Bringing My Website Back to Life

(The Feminine Way… Without the Frills)

System gave me the structure I needed, but I still hadn’t moved my main website over from Wix because it was time for that chapter to close. If I was going to rebuild my online home, I wanted it to feel like a true makeover… something fresh, polished, and inviting. But System’s built-in templates weren’t exactly the stuff Pinterest dreams are made of.

And here’s the funny part: my natural aesthetic leans hard into the masculine. Give me aged leather, rich wood, deep tones, and cigar-lounge vibes, and I am one happy woman. But that wasn’t the energy I wanted my online brand to give off. I wanted something softer — not glitter-and-everything pink feminine — just warm, elevated, and distinctly beautiful in a way that felt welcoming to the moms I work with.

So I knew I needed help. I needed someone who could pull me gently into a more feminine brand vibe without making me feel like I was drowning in pastel butterflies. And that’s when I found Maria Saracen and her templates.

The first time I saw her designs, I swear my heart did a little flip. They were warm, elegant, and professional without being intimidating. And even though I have a decent eye for design, I absolutely do not have the magical ability Maria has to turn a blank screen into something stunning.

Her templates erased my design overwhelm instantly. Everything was mapped out for me — colors, layout, spacing, flow — and all I had to do was personalize it. It was click-click-done, which is basically the dream for any mom trying to build a business while her kids yell her name from three rooms away.

System gave me the tech foundation.

Maria gave me the visual confidence.

But there was still one final piece missing.

When I Realized the Problem Wasn’t

Me — It Was the Platform

After losing my Facebook communities and watching Wix basically laugh at my attempt to rebuild a space on their platform, I knew something had to change. I needed a community home that wouldn’t disappear overnight, wouldn’t bury my people in algorithm BS, or make connections feel impossible. I didn’t want this space to feel like just a sales platform. It needed to be a real community—stable, visible, a place where genuine relationships could actually form.

That’s when I found Skool. And let me tell you—Skool changed everything. In the two years that my community sat mostly silent on Wix, I made almost no progress. But in just four and a half months on Skool, I experienced a 650% growth surge—and that’s not just a number. People are actually finding me. They're showing up. They engaged. They're building friendships.

For the first time, I feel like my community has a true home—one that isn’t at the mercy of someone else’s rules or shutdown decisions or whichever ad is being pushed today. Skool has given me a safe, stable and inviting place for the women I serve—a place where we can grow, learn, and build something meaningful… without ever fearing that it will all vanish again.

If I Could Save You the Stress and the BS I Went Through, I Would. So Here’s How.

If I could go back and save myself the years of frustration, the wasted money, and the emotional rollercoaster… trust me, I absolutely would. But the truth is, you don’t know what you don’t know when you’re starting out in the online world. And as someone who came into this space totally new, I know exactly what it feels like to get hit with shiny object syndrome and listen to every recommendation from every loud voice on the internet.

It’s overwhelming. It’s confusing. And it makes you want to quit before you even start.

That’s why I’m such a fan of the KISS method — Keep It Stupid Simple. I wanted a handful of baseline tools that could get any mom up and running without thousands of dollars, without tech headaches, and without needing a full-blown marketing degree.

Because most of us?

We jump in the car and start driving without a clue where we’re going… hoping we’ll magically recognize the right turn when we see it. And that’s exactly how I built my business in the beginning — guessing, hoping, and praying something would work.

Which is also exactly why I created Wilder Profits: to give moms the clarity, direction, and simple shortcuts I wish I had from day one — in a way that’s supportive and affordable

.

So if I were starting fresh today?

I’d build my foundation using these three ridiculously simple tools:

The 3 Tools I Wish I Had When I Started

1️⃣ System.io

A simple, free, all-in-one platform that lets you build your website and backend without tech overwhelm. Start your Free account here.

2️⃣ Maria Saracen’s Website Templates

Maria’s templates are the reason my website finally looks polished, feminine, and completely aligned with the energy I want my brand to give off. They’re professional without being complicated, beautiful without being fussy, and honestly? They make your website look like you hired a designer even if you absolutely did not.

Her full website bundle is what I recommend if you’re ready to create your full online home base — it gives you everything you need in one place.

But if you’re not quite ready for a full website, she also has:

✨ a Link-in-Bio Mini Bundle (a gorgeous upgrade from tools like Campsite or Linktree, included in the full website bundle).

Whichever option fits where you are in your journey, her designs will make your online presence look and feel like the real deal.

3️⃣ Skool

Skool is the community platform I wish I had years ago. It’s clean, fun, easy to use, and it actually helps your people find you. No algorithms. No disappearing groups. No drama.

If you want to create your own community, you can start your Skool community here.

And if you want support while you’re building your business, I created the Wilder Profits Community on Skool for moms who want income from home without burning out or sacrificing their family. You’ll find clarity, encouragement, tools, and a whole group of women building beside you.

You’re always invited — join us here.

A Closing Note, Mom to Mom

If you’re standing where I once stood — staring at all the options, feeling completely overwhelmed, and wondering how you’re supposed to figure this all out — please hear me when I say this: you are not alone. And please also hear this truth… your dreams matter. What you have to share with the world matters. And if that dream keeps tapping on your heart, it’s because you’re meant to follow it.

Building something beautiful and meaningful isn’t just possible for you — it’s something you get to do. With the right tools, the right support, and a whole lot of heart, you can create a business that gives your family more quality time, less stress, and more financial flow instead of financial strain. A business that supports your life, not one that takes you away from it.
